What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® clear braces can straighten teeth and create a beautiful smile. Invisalign® straightens teeth by using clear aligners, which are virtually invisible when you smile. These Invisalign® aligners resemble teeth whitening trays and are securely placed around your teeth to straighten them. Clear braces are specifically designed to fit your mouth. A series of Invisalign® aligners are customized for you throughout your Invisalign® treatment to slowly straighten crooked teeth.

How does Invisalign® work?

To begin your Invisalign® treatment, you will be given one set of clear braces that you will continuously wear. As your clear braces begin to work, your teeth will slowly straighten and shift into the appropriate position. Once a clear aligner has moved your teeth as much as it can, a new set of clear braces will be customized for you to wear to straighten your teeth even further. After several sets of clear braces, you will have a beautifully straight smile. Each set of Invisalign® aligners will make a small adjustment to your teeth, while the combination of Invisalign® aligners will create a dramatic and pleasing shift in teeth that may be misaligned, crooked, or spaced out. A new set of clear braces will be used every 2-3 weeks until your final Invisalign® treatment.

Can I have Invisalign® after having traditional braces?

In the majority of cases, you can still undergo an Invisalign® treatment after wearing metal braces. Many patients have experienced teeth that have shifted or become uneven after not wearing a retainer following traditional braces. Patients who have had traditional braces are often ideal Invisalign® candidates because Invisalign® clear braces is not meant for patients with extreme orthodontic cases, such as severe overbites or underbites. Invisalign® clear braces can help to straighten your teeth whether you have had traditional metal braces before or not. If you have a dental bridge or dental bridgework, you may not be a candidate for clear braces.

Do I always have to wear my clear braces?

Invisalign® braces should be worn continuously for the best results in the quickest time frame possible. In order for your teeth to properly shift and begin to straighten, you need to wear your clear braces whenever you are not eating, brushing, or flossing. Teeth take time to properly straighten. If you do not wear your Invisalign® aligners continuously, your teeth may not completely straighten, or the duration of your Invisalign® treatment may be prolonged.

Do Invisalign® braces require special care?

Invisalign® braces should be properly cleaned daily, just like regular teeth. We suggest that you remove your Invisalign® braces and thoroughly brush them to remove bacteria. You may also use denture cleaner or Invisalign® cleaning crystals to thoroughly cleanse your Invisalign® aligners. Additionally, you should run your Invisalign® clear braces under lukewarm water to cleanse them. This will ensure your clear aligners remain clear and do not become yellowed or discolored. Do not boil your Invisalign® braces or expose them to extremely hot water or heat, as this can distort your Invisalign® aligners and change their shape.

Can Invisalign® clear braces be combined with another dental procedure?

In some cases, Dr. Classi combines Invisalign® clear braces with dental procedures, such as porcelain veneers. Clear braces can help to reduce overcrowding before receiving porcelain veneers. Additionally, Invisalign® can even be used after receiving porcelain veneers if you are looking for a way to straighten your smile. Invisalign® helps to straighten your teeth, while porcelain veneers can be placed before or after clear braces for a whiter, more even smile.

What should I expect after Invisalign® clear braces?

Invisalign® helps straighten teeth for a symmetrical, natural-looking smile. It is important to note that you will need to wear a retainer after clear braces in order to preserve your straight smile. Dental retainers should be worn continuously for the first few months following your Invisalign® treatment. After your teeth have become accustomed to no longer having the support of Invisalign® braces, you can wear your retainers only while you sleep. Dental retainers will keep your teeth from shifting and preserve your straight smile.
