What is full mouth reconstruction?

Full mouth reconstruction, a procedure also known as full mouth restoration, is a series of dental surgeries or procedures that help to solve several oral health problems or complications. Full mouth reconstruction is a viable option for patients who experience worn dentition. In cases of worn dentition, all of the teeth are worn down due to age and other factors. Full mouth reconstruction focuses on treating oral conditions pertaining to the tongue, lips, inner cheeks, gums, jawbone, teeth, or any of the structural tissues that hold these together. By combining restorative, cosmetic, and general dentistry, full mouth reconstruction can transform the functionality, health, and appearance of your smile.

What procedures may be performed during full mouth reconstruction in NYC?

Full mouth reconstruction is unique in that it varies depending on each patient. Because full mouth reconstruction is a series of procedures, recovery time, results, and procedure length will all vary depending on the quantity of procedures in total. Some common dental procedures performed during full mouth reconstruction include dental implants, dental crowns, dental bridges, fillings, and porcelain inlays / and onlays. Additionally, porcelain veneers, dental bonding and clear braces such as Invisalign® may also be used during full mouth reconstruction. Dental Implant Surgery

Dental implants are permanent missing tooth replacements that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. Traditional dental implants use a metal screw and dental abutment to securely fasten a permanent crown. Dental implant surgery can be used to replace 1 missing tooth or several missing teeth. Long-lasting tooth replacements, and dental implants allow you to enjoy virtually any food without the embarrassment of loose or shifting dentures.

Tooth Extractions

Tooth extractions are necessary for a variety of procedures and are needed if a tooth is too damaged, decayed, or broken to be fixed through another dental procedure. If you have fractured a tooth or have a cavity that has affected the root of your tooth, tooth extraction may be needed. Tooth extraction may even be needed if you have overcrowding and have too many teeth. During dental implant surgery, unhealthy teeth are removed in order to properly treat and restore a healthy smile.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are white tooth-shaped caps that fit over an existing tooth for a bright, healthy smile. White dental crowns can be custom shaded to perfectly match the color of your existing teeth or dental crowns. Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are used to fill the gap made by missing teeth to restore a full and bright smile. A dental bridge is custom designed to securely and comfortably fit on your gum line with natural-looking porcelain teeth to restore your smile. These porcelain teeth are held together through a metal bar for stability and are permanently cemented into place for the longest-lasting results possible. There are many types of dental bridges. The dental bridge options we offer at Classi Smiles include traditional dental bridges, cantilever bridges, and resin-bonded bridges.

Fillings

Dental fillings involve removing damaged or decayed portions of a tooth and inserting tooth-like material to retain the shape and appearance of a tooth. Dr. Classi will begin by removing the damaged portions of a tooth and thoroughly cleaning the area. Dental filling material will be applied, which will restore the shape, appearance, and size of your natural tooth. Focusing on only the most natural-looking results, Dr. Classi does not offer metal fillings but instead offers natural-looking white fillings for a beautiful smile.

Porcelain Inlays / Onlays

Porcelain inlays and onlays can be used to protect large areas of a tooth that have become decayed or damaged. By treating these weaker portions of damaged teeth, porcelain inlays and onlays can protect your tooth from future damage or the possibility of fracturing. Porcelain inlays and onlays help retain the shape, size, and appearance of your natural tooth and save as much of your healthy tooth as possible. A porcelain inlay can be used to treat between cusps, rounded edges, or the center of a tooth’s surface, whereas a porcelain onlay can treat the entire biting surface of a tooth or one or more of the cusps.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are thin layers of porcelain material that are placed over a damaged tooth to protect the remaining enamel of the tooth. A porcelain veneer procedure is painless, requires no anesthesia, and can help create an even smile. After customizing your porcelain veneers to best fit your smile, Dr. Classi is able to securely bond the veneers to your teeth. Porcelains veneers can help conceal discoloration, damage, or decay, while being resistant to discoloration and staining.

Dental Bonding

Dental bonding uses resin material to contour, shape, and restore the appearance of a damaged tooth. The resin material is then bonded to the natural tooth with a specialized curing light, which then firmly bonds the resin material to your tooth. Used to treat 1 or more damaged teeth, dental bonding can help treat cracked, discolored, chipped, or uneven teeth. Dental bonding can also replace metal fillings, protect exposed roots from gum recession, and brighten a discolored or stained smile.

Invisalign® Clear Braces

Invisalign® clear braces can straighten your teeth for a more even smile without the unappealing appearance of traditional metal braces. Using a series of clear aligners, Invisalign® is able to straighten your smile while being virtually invisible. The clear aligners of Invisalign® are similar to teeth whitening trays and are individually designed to comfortably yet tightly fit over your teeth. As your teeth slowly begin to straighten, you will switch clear aligners to gradually shift your teeth into a straight, gleaming smile. Invisalign® is able to provide a stable bite for those undergoing full mouth reconstruction, which can help ease pain associated with TMJ disorder.

All-On-4® Dental Implants

All-On-4® dental implants are a permanent tooth replacement option designed to replace all the missing teeth of your lower jaw. Compared to traditional dental implants, All-On-4® dental implants use only 4 anchor screws to securely fasten a set of teeth to your dental implants. All-On-4® dental implants are a less invasive dental implant option that can help restore your smile and replace missing teeth of the lower jaw. Unlike traditional tooth replacements, All-On-4® dental implants do not require special creams, pastes, or care.

All-On-6® Dental Implants

Similar to All-On-4® dental implants, All-On-6 dental implants are a tooth replacement option that is specifically designed to replace all the missing teeth of your upper jaw. Using only 6 anchor screws, All-On-6 dental implants are less invasive than traditional dental implants if you are having all of your teeth replaced. As traditional dental implants require a screw for each individual tooth being replaced, All-On-6 dental implants are a more desirable option, as they only require 6 anchor screws in total for a beautiful smile.

Dr. Classi will begin by conducting a general dental exam to assess the health of your teeth and surrounding structures. A digital impression using an intraoral scanner may be used to gather more information on your oral health. In some cases, Dr. Classi may take a dental X-Ray scan, which can help plan future dental procedures and evaluate jawbone health. After an initial full mouth reconstruction consultation at our NYC office, Dr. Classi will begin to plan your individual full mouth restoration procedure. Typically, this includes deciding which procedures you will benefit from and creating a surgical plan of when you will undergo specific procedures. Dr. Classi will evaluate your oral health, specific needs, and other factors to decide which procedures would be most beneficial and help you achieve a healthy smile.
